Body Positive Ramblings

This page is where I will put my body positive posts, which I know there will be a lot of. Stay tuned for more posts.

How I’ve Come to This Point: A post detailing my history of growing up with large breasts, being in an abusive relationship, developing an eating disorder, and coming out of it loving myself and the body I have.

The Freedom to be Fat: A post questioning why people are free to criticize other bodies freely, but other people aren’t “allowed” to exist in a conventionally “unattractive” state. Why is body shaming more acceptable than being fat?

Why I’m So Passionate About Bra Fitting: Just what it sounds like. This post details my journey of finding the elusive “Bra That Fits”, and why bra fitting is so much more than just finding a well fitting article of clothing.

Body Shaming Is NOT Body Positive: Why criticizing thin or small breasted women is not body positive, and why it’s important for women of all shapes and sizes to not make rude comments about the bodies of others.

The Grass Is Not Greener, A Petite Woman’s Perspective on Bra Fitting: This post piggybacks on the previous post. In this post I asked Amanda from Bras Outside the Box what difficulties she faces when it comes to finding bras. It sheds a lot of perspective on the stereotype that petite women have an easy time finding bras and proves that it’s not always true.

Body Positivity Is For Everyone: I asked my FaceBook friends to give me their body image stories and compiled the ones I received in this post. It’s a pretty diverse group of people and really cements the idea that people of all shapes, sizes, genders, and ethnic groups can struggle with their body image.

Acknowledging “Big and Tall” Men: I wrote this after watching my boyfriend struggle as an overweight man. Men deserve a place in the body positive movement too, and there are plenty of parallels between the way plus size women and “Big and Tall” men are treated.

Periods Are Normal. Let’s Talk About Them: A post that goes through my personal history with my period, the collection methods I tried, the birth control methods I used, and how I’ve felt through it all. This post was written before my review of THINX Boyshorts.

Diet Culture in the Body Positive Community: A post detailing the way diet culture has infiltrated the body positive community and made it another place for the “thin is better” mentality to show up.
