Rolls and Curves’ 2016 Favorites

I’ve never written a favorites post before, but I decided it was a good idea to write one since I’ve opened my blog up to other types of reviews. I’m going to start doing monthly favorites, but first I’m going to summarize my favorite things and products that I’ve used and loved over the last year! I’m sorry this is a little late. I’ve been recovering from my first surgery to treat my endometriosis. If I have a  full review of one of the things listed, I’ll link it. Some of the pictures are mine, but the ones that aren’t mine were pulled from Google for illustrative purposes.

Beauty:

Colour Prevails Blank Canvas Foundation: This foundation suits my needs very well. I have combination skin with eczema,  but I don’t tend to have a lot of pimples. I’ve gone through 3 full bottles of this foundation since I first discovered it last year. It never fails.

Yes to Cucumbers Gel Cleanser: As I mentioned above, I have eczema. It’s really difficult for me to find a daily cleanser that balances my skin and keeps it from breaking out in rashes. This is one of the most gentle cleansers I’ve ever tried, and the price is very reasonable.

Lime Crime Lipsticks: Lime Crime is one of the most controversial beauty brands around at the moment. Despite that, I hopped on the chance to buy a Velvetine from reddit r/makeupexchange. I instantly fell in love with it and quickly purchased 2 of the Unicorn Lipsticks (Styletto and Airborne Unicorn). These are the most comfortable and long lasting lipsticks I’ve ever tried.

Katy Perry Killer Queen Perfume: My boyfriend bought me this perfume very early in our relationship. It’s a very sweet and complex fragrance that has just a hint of darkness and sex appeal. I used to be too afraid to wear this during the day or at work. I think I was worried it was too much for daily wear, but lately I’ve been wearing it anyway. Life is too short to care if other people think you’re too extra. I like the way it smells and that’s all that matters. Two sprays in the morning will last me all day.

Micellar Water: Namely Garnier and Simple. It’s by far the easiest way to remove makeup before cleansing. It’s also awesome for spot cleaning brushes. It leaves zero residue behind, and in a pinch I’ve used it when I was too tired or drunk to remove my makeup with another cleanser. It’s not perfect, but it’s better than sleeping in your makeup. Micellar water is so much more gentle than classic makeup removers that tend to sting my skin and eyes.

Coastal Scents Revealed Palettes  (1 and 2): I bought these because I heard they were really good dupes for the Urban Decay Naked Palettes.I don’t personally own the Naked palettes, but I’ve tested them out in store and the formula is similar enough for me to justify the significant difference in price. I don’t feel the need to shell out $150 for all 3 Naked palettes when I have all the shades in these 2 slim palettes.

L’Oreal Hicolor Haircolor: I use both the regular Hicolor and the Hicolor Hilights formulas to maintain my red hair. This is my favorite red hair dye of all time. It lasts much longer than other brands, and helps me achieve an extremely vibrant red color without pre lightening my hair. Every time I touch up my hair it comes out brighter.

Clothing:

Torrid in General: I always knew Torrid existed, but had never tried their clothing because I wasn’t sure about the quality. When a location opened up in my hometown, I went immediately. I really like a lot of their products and can’t stop recommending them to everyone I know. I’ve tried out their swimwear, dresses, lingerie, and some more casual clothing. Their jeans fit me perfectly. I love everything about this store, and they have some amazing sales and clearance items. If you’re in the 10-30 size range, you need to check out Torrid. They have something for everyone.

Liz Lange Maternity Shorts: The past summer was disturbingly hot. I usually don’t wear shorts, but I just had to buy some because leaving the house in pants was so uncomfortable. I went to 7-12 stores in search of shorts and left empty handed every time. I went to Target because l remembered they have a plus size line. I tried the Ava & Viv shorts and hated them. They were baggy and uncomfortable and I had to size up a few sizes get a pair that fit my stomach, waist, and hips. They ended up looking like parachute shorts.

I noticed that the maternity rack was right next to the plus rack, and the maternity shorts went up to an XXL. I tried them on a whim and they fit perfectly. I admit it did hurt my self esteem to need maternity shorts, but they’re so comfortable and look so great on me that I just don’t care. It’s ironic that an adamantly childfree person fell in love with maternity shorts.

Lingerie:

Ewa Michalak FB Kicia Szałowa (95J): Due to my wide breasts roots, I always thought Ewa Michalak bras were out of my reach. I discovered that wearing a sister size with a larger band would give me a cup width that works out for me. These bras are absolute tanks. I’ve worn them more than any other bras in my collection, and they barely look worn. The FB cut is the most thoughtfully constructed bra I’ve ever put on my boobs.

Elomi Etta  (42J): Despite the fact that the band is a little bigger than I’d like, this bra is probably the second most worn in my collection. I love the fact that it’s super comfortable and different enough to not be “just another black bra.” The construction is perfect for my wide, short roots. The J-hook makes it super supportive and distributes the weight of my breasts more evenly. I got a second one in pink and still love it even though it’s not the best size (40H)

Vassarette Underwear: I was looking for some cheap underwear to wear for my blog photos, and stumbled upon these at my local Walmart. I actually went back and bought more because they’re so comfortable and give me a bit of light support. They do only go up to a 3X, and seem to run small because I’m wearing the largest size despite usually needing a 2X across the board in underwear.

Elila Stretch Lace Cheeky Panties (2X): This sounds horrible, but out of everything Elila sent me, the panties are the things I wear the most. These are my favorite underwear. They help smooth out my stomach without squeezing me too tightly, and the lace details are sexy and comfortable. I get a completely seamless look in these panties. I love wearing the black ones in my blog photos because they’re so full coverage and flattering. The pink ones are perfect to wear under a pair of white shorts I own. They’re completely invisible.

THINX Boyshorts: I admit I was skeptical about the concept of period panties, but they definitely work. I have endometriosis and other unknown issues, so I never know how bad my periods are going to be. I like to use these as tampon backup, but I’ve also used them to free bleed. They’ve gotten me through so many horrible periods or days where I’m super sweaty and want a little more protection without worrying about a pantyliner.

Randoms:

The Girl on the Train: If you liked Gone Girl, you’ll love this movie and the book that inspired it. The subject matter is pretty serious, and the acting and atmosphere made it raw and memorable. Despite knowing the plot, I was still shocked and emotionally impacted by this movie. My boyfriend loved it too, and he was blown away by the plot because he knew nothing about it beforehand.

My Betsey Johnson Bags: I’m absolutely in love with Betsey Johnson’s designs and have pined over her bags and other pieces, but couldn’t justify the cost due to my financial restrictions. I spotted one of her bags at a local discount retailer, and bought it because it was a really good price. It fueled my desire for more Betsey Johnson products, and I can’t wait to expand my collection. Since buying the first bag I bought a second one that I found at a thrift store.

True Blood: Okay, I know I’m way late with this one. For some reason I started and stopped the first season a few times. I finally sat down and watched it over the course of a few weeks with my boyfriend. It wasn’t particularly groundbreaking, but it was sexy and entertaining. I was sad when I finished it.

Mr. Robot: This is one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. It’s like Fight Club, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, American Psycho and more all rolled into one. I can’t really say much more about it because I don’t want to give it away, but if you like the examples I gave above, you should at least watch the first episode to see if it captures your attention.

Wowbutter: I am allergic to peanuts and tree nuts. I grew up eating a lot of peanut butter, and when I became allergic to nuts at age 12 I was desperate to find a substitute for peanut butter. Wowbutter has the same flavor and texture of peanut butter, and works the same in recipes. I love making Wowbutter cookies as a substitute for peanut butter cookies. People can’t tell the difference between the two.

So those are my favorite products of 2016! It seemed like a rough year for almost everyone. I’m happy 2016 is finally behind us, and I can only wish 2017 treats everyone a little better. I know for me personally the last 16 days of 2017 have already been a little better than last year.

Have you tried Forces of Nature for ezcema? My daughter started getting ezcema when she was about two. First she would get it in the winter and then the summer. I tried a bunch of stuff but drew the line at steroids. My mom had ezcema for over 25 years and finally got in under control with an elimination diet. It took a few years. My daughter goes to daycare and they feed her there and it’s beyond my control. We are in Korea and only she speaks Korean. She’s five so not much help. They’ve got soap and liquid medicine. It’s got essential oils in it. Seems to work for her and it doesn’t have a bunch of crap in it.

I haven’t! I actually have a bunch of food allergies and other allergies but never got the full test done so it’s possible that there’s something I’m allergic to that I need to elimate. I make my own lotions and body butters sometimes when my eczema gets bad. Right now it’s out of control due to stress and allergies and I’ll probably need a round of Prednisone.
